Let's Get Registered Alumni and Staff to 1,200 - Class of '89 Gets a "Two-fer"!
Currently we have nearly 900 alumni and staff registered as participants in the reunion. We want to make sure that all alumni and staff (past and present) know about the reunion. Please take another look at your contact list and help us to continue spreading the word - remind any alumni or staff that you know to register at www.jt50.ca. You can use our email tool at http://www.jt50.ca/tell-a-friend/.
Remember Class of '89, you can celebrate both the 50th anniversary of John Taylor and the 25th anniversary of your graduation.

Construction and first day
Back in late 1963 a group of us would frequently check out the construction of our new school. When the workers were not there we walked on the gymnasium floor before the walls were in place. It was an impressive huge sheet of concrete.
On the first day there were no desks and we all had to sit on the floor. The lunch room and vending machines were under the gym.

Only 63 days to JT50 - Time to get Organized!
Greetings!
Hello Alumni and Staff Members!
The JT50 Reunion Committee has partnered with EventIQ to provide you with flexibility in organizing your reunion experience. You can buy tickets for the Friday Social and Saturday Dinner & Dance, purchase JT50 memorabilia and register for the numerous free events and activities. The site allows you to make multiple visits to purchase tickets or confirm attendance at any of the events.
The main event of the weekend is the Saturday Night Fever dinner and dance to be held at the RBC Convention Centre on Saturday, May 17th commencing at 6:00 PM. Bring your dancing shoes and prepare to stay up late! A few important points when buying your tickets:
Select your table
When you purchase tickets for this event you can select the table that you will sit at. If others are at the table you will be able to see their names. Once you have booked a table, you can let your friends know your table number and they can join you - provided that seats are available - as availability is first come, first serve.
Purchase tickets and confirm names later
You can purchase extra tickets (even whole tables) and let us know who will be joining you later. Simply enter "TBD" as the first and last names to complete the purchase of the extra tickets and email Arlene Billeck at babilleck@shaw.ca once you know who will be sitting there. This is a great way to make sure that you are seated with friends and family.
Change Names
Provided you purchased the tickets, you can change the names of your dinner guest by emailing Arlene Billeck at babilleck@shaw.ca with the changes.
Tables are beginning to book quickly and we expect that table choices will start to become limited.

School Spirit
Back in the late 70's the student council had come up with Home Room of the Year to help build school spirit. Homerooms would vie for the honour by decorating their rooms on special occasions and doing things that related to their group. One year my homeroom was the senior band comprised of about 80 students. (Obviously, attendance reporting was one of the challenges.) The SC decided homerooms should try and come up with a slogan that would be emblematic of their group. I cajoled the band for several weeks to come up with some ideas. Although we had many talented students in that group we had difficultly coming up with a good idea. Some of the ideas that did surface were not really appropriate. One of the more popular TV shows of the time was 'Three's Company'. We finally decided on 'Three's Company.....but 80's an Orgy!'. Surprisingly, our class was named Home Room of the Year!

Where's My Desk?
Mr. Gordon would come bounding into his classroom each and every day and throw his briefcase up onto his desk ... until one day he came bounding into the classroom, lifting his briefcase up onto ... a desk that was not there. He laughed a bit sheepishly with a rather awkward look of confusion. As he glanced around the classroom he could see that his "angelic class" had been up to something. It wasn't long before he talked us into telling him where his desk might be. And as I recall, that is when the curtains opened and there sitting out in the grassy field behind the building was his desk. Again, holding back his laughter because this is the best he had ever seen, he advised us we better get the desk back into the classroom before a parent called the school to enquire why a teacher's desk was sitting in the field ... I believe to this day, that is one of the better, "got the teacher" stories in the history of JT.

Help Us Connect with Former Staff! Newsletter, Feb 28, 2014
JT50 Newsletter
Greetings!
Hello former and current staff members!
Help us reconnect with former staff
One of the many great aspects of a high school reunion is the ability for Alumni to reconnect with the teachers that made a difference in their life. We have had a great response to the many activities organized, with close to 850 people registered to receive information or committed to attend. We need your help to contact former staff members who may not have heard about the reunion or have not registered on the JT50 website. Please spread the word and let's have a great turn out by our JT teaching staff.
Please direct them to visit www.jt50.ca for all the details.
Thank you for all of your assistance. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
JT50 Administration
